Welcome
It is normal to face difficulties in life. Often it is possible to handle things alone or with the support of loved ones. However there are times when stress can feel like too much too cope with unaided. Working with a psychologist can provide a safe space to work through hard experiences or painful emotions. The process is seldom easy though and takes courage and commitment.
My name is Dror Cohen I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. The purpose of this website is to introduce myself and provide some information that could be helpful to people considering therapy.
I am interested in Adult Individual Therapy - Short and Long term. I have included a list below of some of the reasons someone might start therapy.
- Depression which can include low moods, a lack of interest in life, decreased appetite and feeling tired all the time.
- Anxiety refers to panic attacks or constant worrying.
- Traumatic experiences such as a car accident or hijacking.
- Relationship issues with an intimate partner such as domestic abuse.
- Interpersonal problems that lead to difficulty cultivating relationships with friends.
- Bereavement or the process of the loss of a loved one.
- Major life adjustments such as divorce or changing jobs.
- Self harming thoughts and behaviour.
- Chronic illnesses like HIV or chronic pain.
- Existential concerns such as feelings of loneliness or a sense of meaninglessness.
- The form of therapy that I practice is influenced by psycho analytic theories and is also often sought out by people that are keen on self growth such as students of psychology or psychiatry.
I am also interested in Play therapy and Parental counselling this is for children that are presenting with emotional or behavioural problems. It could also be helpful for young people that have had to negotiate difficult life changes such as divorce, trauma or the loss of a loved one.
